Ralph George Hartman, 73 of Cranston, Rhode Island, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004.

He was born November 6, 1930, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the son of the late George and Anna (Hanneman) Hartman. Married to Rita Christy in Cranston, R.I., who preceded him in death September 19, 2000.

Mr. Hartman received his education in the Oshkosh public school system. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh for 2-1/2 semesters before serving in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46. He continued his education at UW-Oshkosh, receiving his B.A. in Education. He received his Master's degree in Rhode Island.

He served as an elementary school teacher in Wisconsin and Rhode Island, later serving as a Principal in a Rhode Island school system.

Survivors include his two daughters, Elaine (Bruce) Torman, Diane Macarush, and one son, Robert (Mel) Hartman, eight grandchildren, two sisters Lillian Hartman and Elaine (Leo) Muza of Oshkosh, and numerous nieces and nephews.

His brothers William, Albert, Edward, Raymond, and Walter Hartman, and sisters Helen Hoppe and Delores Popke preceded him in death.

Per Ralph's wishes, he was cremated and his ashes were buried at sea.
