Vera Harper was the daughter of Jim and Ellen Simmons. She had 2 brothers, Ray and Shell Simmons and one sister Jewell Simmons Byers. When she was 15 years old she married Jess Harper. They had 4 children. Margaret Helen Gothard, Dean Gothard, Robert Jess Harper and Ben Harper. They lived 7 miles east of Stockton. In 1948 Vera had cancer. She went to Columbia, MO for treatment. Then in 1953 the cancer came back. She died at her home on March 17, 1955.
