Funeral services for Vera Jane Marlin, 85, of Bussey, who died on Wednesday, October 18, 2000, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital, were held on Friday, October 20, 2000 at the Bussey United Methodist Church. Rev. Thelma Subramanian officiated at the services.
Vera was born on September 24, 1915 in Bussey to Alex and Mary (Bingaman) Spaur.
Vera married James Edward Marlin on June 30, 1938 in Ottumwa. She was a homemaker and had done home decorating and housekeeping at the physician's residence at the V.A. facility in Knoxville.
Vera was a resident of Knoxville all her life. She was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star Chapter 439 of Bussey and was a member of the Marion Rebekah Lodge No. 70 since 1947.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; Floyd "Toddy" and Teddy and Rex.
She is survived by her husband, James of Bussey; two sons and daughters-in-law, James E. Marlin, Jr. and Jan of Bussey and Richard and Virginia Marlin of Hamilton; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Dale Valvoda of Fort Dodge; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bill Spaur of Bussey.
Memorials may be made to the Masons or Hospice of Central Iowa.
Arrangements were made by Gilbert-Nordstrom Funeral Home in Bussey.
