In 1880 she, her parents, four siblings, and a cousin, 19-year-old Mary Peterson, lived in probably the same place. Her father worked as a water tender in an iron rail mill, William in a brickyard, and Jacob as an engineer for a railroad. Mary was also enumerated with her parents in Jenner Township, Somerset County, PA. She married Henry Stombaugh in 1881.
In 1900 she and her husband were two of four boarders in the home of Elizabeth Kramer, her son, and her brother in a house they were renting at 225 Lincoln Street in Johnstown, PA. He worked as a laborer at a blast furnace.
