Tennessee "Tennie" Slaughter was born on 14 March 1891 in Star, Mills County, Texas to John Franklin Slaughter and Zillie Ann Melinda (Roberts) Adams. She lived most of her life in Star, Texas.

Tennie Slaughter married on 24 Dec 1908 in Center City, Mills County, Texas to Thomas Landmon "Lant" Adams. Center City, Texas is now a ghost town. It was settled c1870 first as "Hughes Store", after the general store owner W. C. Hughes, and became Center City around the time that Mills County was organized. Tennie and Lant had four children: Vince "Dee" Adams; Gladys Izora "Doe" Adams; Bonnie Ovella Adams; and T.L. Jr. The family's residence was in Star, Texas.

After the death of her husband, Tennie moved to Sweetwater, Nolan County, Texas to be near her daughter Bonnie Ovella Adams Stubbs. She lived at the Holiday Retirement Center in Sweetwater.

Tennie (Slaughter) Adams died on 19 Aug 1976 in the Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater, Nolan County, Texas. She is buried next to her husband in Hurst Ranch Cemetery, Hamilton County, Texas. She died at the age of 85 years.
