Born June 15, 1918, in Wayne Heights, she was the daughter of the late Harold L. and Bessie (Rowe) Null. She lived most of her life in the Waynesboro area.
She and her husband, Odell J. Shank, were married Dec. 24, 1936, in Waynesboro. They moved to the Amsterdam Road residence following their marriage. Mr. Shank died Nov. 24, 1973. Following his death, she continued the operation of Shank's Mill for many years and worked to preserve the mill, which is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Pennsylvania Register of Historic Places.
She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro, and Mrs. Nickle's Sunday School Class. She taught Sunday School in the primary department and was active in the Ladies Guild.
She also was a member of the Whirly Birds and Curley Q's square dance clubs, Organic Garden Club in Rouzerville, Franklin County Heritage; National Audubon Society; and "SPOOM," the Society for the Preservation of Old Mills.
Mrs. Shank earned the Franklin County Preservationist of the Year award in 1987.
She served on the board of directors of Null Machine Shop Inc., Greencastle, for more than 30 years.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening, square dancing, photography, traveling, birding, conservation activities, rug making, interior decorating, biking, jogging, playing volleyball and badminton, and being a preservationist.
She is survived by one daughter, Dorene Shank of Asperhofen, Austria, one son, Adrian J. Shank of Odenton, Md., four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters, Elizabeth N. Sachs of Waynesboro and Ruthanna N. McFerren of Chambersburg; one brother, Thurlow Null of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.
