Ralph I. Ness, 80, died at 11 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2004 at York County Nursing Home in York. He was the husband of Betty M. (Kraft) Ness. They were married 57 years on June 29, 2003. Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with the funeral service to follow at 7 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room at York County Nursing Home, 118 Pleasant Acres Rd., York. The Rev. Klaus G.W. Molsahn will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Christ (Roth's) Lutheran Cemetery in Jackson Twp with full military rites performed by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Irwin Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Ness was born May 25, 1923, in Springfield Township, a son of the late Albert S. and Ida (Steigler) Ness. He retired in 1987, after 35 years of service with Alloy Rods in Hanover. He was a US Army veteran of World War II serving in the Philippines and New Guinea with the 510th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion. Mr. Ness also leaves a daughter, Linda M. Smith of Thomasville; a granddaughter, a great granddaughter; a sister, Alverta M. Hetrick of York; a half brother, Perry S. Ness of Jacobus; two step brothers, Clyde Jackson of Jacobus and Ray Jackson of Dallastown.
