Shirley was born Jan. 31, 1930, in Lacon, Ill., to C.P. and May (Smith) Danhof. She married Lee Hofer on April 7, 1951, at St. Mary's Church in Henry. He survives in Henry.
Also surviving are her children, Sharon (Gary) Koehler and Robert Hofer, both of Henry, Janet (Bob) Thornton of Clifton Hills, Mo., Roger (Leslie) Hofer, Leona (Bill) Bouser and Gary (Jennifer) Hofer, all of Henry, and Susie Lingemann of Ottawa; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gloria Steczek of Henry.
One grandson, Robert Hofer Jr., and one brother preceded her in death.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Henry and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was a homemaker. She also worked at King's House and Swan Lake Duck Club and at Hofer Lanes, which she co-owned with her family.
The most important job to her was being a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She selflessly dedicated her life to those she loved.
Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at St. Mary's Church in Henry. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at noon. Father Art Myer will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Henry.
