She visited other relatives in NY including the Wagoners on Wellesley Island in the 1000 Islands near the Canadian border. While there she met and became friends with the daughter of George Boldt, the builder of Boldt Castle. This relationship continued after her marriage and she said that Clover Boldt told her that her mother did not die as stated in local lore, but instead "ran off with another man." Flora was a strong church woman and would not have made that up.
She loved animals - nurtured an orphan cub bear and robins ate from her hand! Flora was also a member of the DAR.
