Services Held Tuesday For Former Shotley Man

The body of a 70-year-old man who had been stabbed to death was found Friday afternoon in an apartment in Minneapolis.

The dead man was identified by Minneapolis police as Walter B. Anderson. Homicide detectives and the coroner said he had been stabbed about 43 times in the stomach, abdomen and back.

Police said the body was found by an assistant caretaker, who was making his regular daily visit to Anderson's apartment. The victim was found lying on his back just inside the apartment door, police said.

Homicide detectives said Anderson's empty billfold was found next to his body. He had received his social security check that morning. The investigation is continuing.

Anderson was born June 24, 1905 at Shotley. He did much farming and logging in the Shotley area and also worked as a carpenter throughout Minnesota.

Survivors include a son Robert of Onalaska, Wisconsin and a daughter, Jeannine Anderson of Minneapolis; three sisters, Laura Edlund, Ethel Sandberg and Linnea Peters; and a brother Willard, all of Kelliher and three grandchildren.

1910 Census: Ben Anderson (45) born about 1865 in Sweden, and Inga Anderson (47) born about 1863 in Sweden, were living in Shotley, Beltrami, Minnesota. Children: Ethel (17), Linia (15), Laura (13), Della (11), Willard (9), and Walter (4). Also living in this household was Bengt's brother-in-law - Olaf Anderson (49), born about 1861 in Sweden.

1920 Census: Ben Anderson (55) and Inga Anderson (60) were living in Shotley, Beltrami, Minnesota. Children: Laura (23), William (18), and Walter (14). Brother-in-law Olaf Anderson (58) lived with them as did Anton Olson (40) who is listed as a servant although in 1940 he is listed as Inga's nephew. A boarder lived with them - Hjelmar Edlund (27) born about 1893 in Iowa.

1930 Census: Bengt A Anderson (64) born about 1866 in Sweden and immigrated 1886, and his wife Inga Anderson (69) born about 1861 in Swedenand immigrated 1887, were living in Shotley, Beltrami, Minnesota. Children (all born in Minnesota): Willard L (29) and Walter B (24). Also living with them was Bengt's brother-in-law - Olaf Anderson (68) born about 1862 in Sweden and immigrated 1902, and Inga's nephew - Anton Olson (53) born about 1877 in Sweden and immigrated 1903.
