Musician. He was the conductor of the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra, who composed in 1913 the official California state song "I Love You, California." The lyrics of the song were written by F.B. Silverwood. After being debuted by the Orpheum Theatre Orchestra with opera star Mary Garden, the song went on to be performed on the first ship to pass through the Panama Canal and at the San Francisco World's Fair in 1915. The song was designated the State Song by the California Legislature in 1951 and reconfirmed in 1987. Born Abraham Franklin Frankenstein, the son of German Jewish immigrants, his father was in the garment business. He was part of a musical family, which included a cousin, Alfred Frankenstein, being the music and artic critic for the "San Francisco Chronical." He was married twice: At age 19, he met and quickly eloped with Loretta Langdron age 17. Divorce processing began the next week but were not finalized until over ten years later after relocating to California. He married his second wife, Gertrude Miner Scott, on September 14, 1914. The couple had at least two sons, who changed their surnames, as adults, from Frankenstein.
