Minister Troy Marion Hollandsworth Sr., 81, of 3131 Oak Level Road, died Saturday night, March 3, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. A native of Franklin County, he was born Nov. 28, 1919, a son of the late Johnny and Lorella Craddock Hollandsworth. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Maude Cannaday Hollandsworth, in 1978; brothers, John, Jack, Harry, Johnson and Freddie Hollandsworth; and sisters, Oprah Mize, Molley Holley, Annie Vaughan, Lessie Adkins and Velma Thompson.
He was retired from DuPont of Martinsville and was a minister at the Saltville Church of Christ, Saltville, Va., and the Oak Level Road Church of Christ. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army's 605th Tank Destroyer Battalion under General George Patton. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Revonda Montgomery Hollandsworth of the home; three sons, Troy Hollandsworth Jr. and Gary Hollandsworth, both of Bassett, and David Hollandsworth of Raleigh; a daughter, Jane Ball of Abingdon; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Oak Level Road Church of Christ with his three sons serving as officiating ministers. Burial with military rites at the graveside by the Martinsville-Henry County Honor Guard will be in Henry Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers,memorials may be made to the Bassett Rescue Squad.
The family will receive friends Monday night from 7 until 9 p.m. at Collins Funeral Chapel,Bassett.
