Mildred Dorfman Fruhling, 79, died Monday Jan. 10, 2000 in Brownsville.
She was born in Houston and moved to Brownsville with her parents, Isadore and Dorothy Oshman Dorfman in 1923. She graduated from Brownsville High School and attended the University of Texas in Austin, where she co-founded Sigma Delta Tau sorority.
She returned to Brownsville and worked in her fathers jewelry store from many years. She married Henry Jacob Fruhling and worked with him as co-owner of Ralphs, a ladies specialty store. She was president of Palm Village Shopping Center for over 25 years and managed Dorfman properties.
She was a member of Temple Beth-El, a lifetime member of Hadassah, a member of the Sisterhood of Temple Beth-El, a member of the Brownsville Junior Service League and a lifetime member of Bnai Brith for women. She was active in many civic and charitable organizations.
She is survived by one daughter, Judy Fruhling Avila of Brownsville.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Hebrew Cemetery on Madison Street.
