He was born February 1, 1924 in Cecil, AR to Demus George and Grace Helen Jordan Shelby.
He was a retired sales representative for Pepsico in Fort Smith, a Veteran of the U.S. Army where he received three Bronze Stars, an active volunteer for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church, an avid gardener, and fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.
He is survived by his wife Elva Joyce Shelby of the Home; one son, David and his wife Shirley Shelby of Springdale, AR; two grandchildren, Chris and his wife April Shelby, and Sarah Shelby; and one great grandchild, Braeden Shelby.
Funeral service will be Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 12:00 noon in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the U.S. National Cemetery all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Smith, Millard Stephenson, David Brooks, Chuck Combs, J.C. Cartwright, Gary Kuykendall, and Bill Wolfe.
