Edward Bechle, 82, of 408 St. Paul St., Kiel, died this morning at Willowdale Nursing Home in New Holstein, where he had been a patient for one week.
He was born May 25, 1894 in the Town Eaton, a son of John and Rose Schraeder-Bechle. He attended area schools.
A World War I veteran, he served with the U.S. Cavalry in France.On Nov. 18, 1919 he married Theresa Lax at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. The couple lived in the Town of Schleswig until 1922, when they moved to Kiel.
Mr. Bechle was employed at the Kiel Wooden Ware Co. for 45 years, retiring in 1959. He was a member of the Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, the parish's Holy Name Society, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the American Legion Post No. 99, and the Tri-County VFW Post No. 6707.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Leander (Katheryn) Schabach, Hilbert, and Mrs. Rita Schneider, New Holstein; two sons, Wilbur, Kiel, and Jerome, Green Bay; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Stedolo, Rockford, Ill., and Mrs. Erma Steinhagen, Milwaukee, and five brothers, William and Peter, both of Sheboygan and Frank, Raymond and Arnold, all of Kiel.
He was preceded by a son, two grandchildren, one sister and two brothers.
The funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, with the Rev. Francis Kerscher, pastor, the celebrant.
Brief family rites will be held at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel, at 9:30 a.m.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery. - 1976
