Anderson - Virgil Baker, 85, Anderson, passed away June 30, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis Indiana after a brief illness.

He was born August 20, 1925 in Wise, Virginia, and resided in Anderson since 1947.

Virgil served his country in the US Army during WWII Battle of the Bulge earning the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

He retired as a millwright from Delco Remy Division of General Motors.

Virgil was a member of Huntsville Good Shepherd Community Church.

He is survived by his wife whom he married March 29, 1947, Leeota "Lee" (Beverly) Baker; children, Martha Mullins (Douglas) of Celina, Tennessee, Douglas Baker (Tamra) of Nashville, Tennessee, Brenda Reimer (Michael) of Carmel and Cheryl Taulman (Chris) of Pendleton; sister, Katherine Covey of Leesburg, Florida; brother, Frank Baker (Virginia) of Wise, Virginia and Richard Baker of Rootstown, Ohio; seven grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; three great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Schuyler & Sarah (Skeens) Baker; brothers, Milford Baker, Arlie Baker, Herbert Baker, Clarence Baker and John "Jimmy" Baker and sister, Odith Bevins.

Visitation will be from 4-8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory; 200 W. 53rd Street; Anderson.

Services will be Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 1:00 PM, at the funeral home, with Rev. Claude Creel officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
