Frank Baker (Jerry Franklin Baker), 74, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, June 6, 2012, at the Heritage Hall Health Care in Wise, Va. Frank will be sorely missed; however, we are rejoicing in the fact that he is now totally healed and in the presence of the Lord! Frank retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation in 1991 and worked several years at the Supreme Clean Carwash in Wise. He was well known for his singing voice which included over 20 years with The Baker Family. Frank had a great sense of humor. He loved conversing with his buddies at Hardees each morning over coffee. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and being involved in church. Frank and Virginia are currently attending Spirit of Life Fellowship Church in Wise with Pastor Robin Sturgill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry Schuyler Baker and Sarah Skeen Baker; brothers, Hubert, Clarence, Arlie, Milford, Jimmy and Virgil Baker; one sister, Odith Leland Bevins; and a step-brother, Hubert Berry. Surviving is his loving wife of 53 years, Virginia Baker; son, Greg Baker and wife, Lesa; daughter, Judy Collins and husband, Winfred; five grandchildren, Alyssa Phillips and husband, Ryan, Kara Collins, Madison Collins, Nathaniel Baker and Decima Baker; sister, Katherine Covey; brother, Richard Baker; step-brother, Kenny Berry; step-sister, Norma Rogers; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. David Sheppard, the staff at Norton Community Hospital and the staff at Heritage Hall for their wonderful care they gave. They did an outstanding job caring for Dad and we are forever grateful to them. Funeral services for Frank Baker will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the Zion Family Ministries Norton Road Wise, VA 24293 with Pastor Robin Sturgill, Pastor Wayne Hager and Jim Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Wise Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2012, at the Zion Family Ministries. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spirit of Life Fellowship Church, P.O. Box 1128, Wise, VA 24293.
