Eli Seamore/Seymore Godwin moved from Mcnairy County TN to Clark County AR with his parents in 1845 at age seven. He married Mary Melvina Thornton in Hot Springs AR on 21 October, 1860, and soon left to serve the Confederacy during the Civil War. He was given a medical discharge for pulmonary illness at Camp Rush in Little Rock Arkansas on 24 July, 1862.
On his medical discharge from the Confederacy, Eli Seamore Godwin was paid $11 per month and was given $10 traveling allowance to go home to Clark Co. Arkansas, a distance of 100 miles.
