My 2nd great-grandparents John Allen Godwin, Sr. and wife Aletha Spencer Godwin Cain donated the land for the DeRoche Baptist Church and were charter members in 1847. He was very active in the affairs of this church until his death in 1853 during a fever epidemic which also took the lives of three of their little daughters. I feel confident that all four of these Godwin's were early interments in the DeRoche Cemetery.
In addition to the children linked on Find-a-Grave, John and Aletha had a son named Pleasant Marion Godwin (1837-1860)who died in Arkadelphia, Clark County AR.
