Jessie Ophelia Taylor Pitts, age 85, of 120 Oak Creek Road, Seneca, died Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at her residence. Born in Oconee County, Aug. 27, 1917, Mrs. Pitts was a homemaker, was a member of Oakway Wesleyan Church, where she served as pianist and organist and as President of the Women's Missionary Union, and was a member of the Golden Age Sunday School Class. She was also a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and wife.
Survivors include: Husband, David Robert Pitts Sr., of the home; a son, David Robert Pitts Jr., and wife, Barbara, of Sumter; daughters, Miriam Ophelia Nicholson, and husband, Bill, Brenda Marlene Scarbrough, and husband, Pall, all of Seneca, and Audre Lee Riley, and husband, Bob, of New Bern, N.C.; brothers, Harold Taylor of Anderson and Furman Taylor of Abbeville; sisters, Cordelia Schoen of Seneca and Kathleen Hadden of Abbeville; nine grandchildren, Gina and Renee Nicholson, Taylor and Cindy Riley, Paula Buxton, Tonya McCutchen, David lll and Chelsea and Warren Pitts; six great-grandchildren, Megan and Amanda Riley, Scott and Brent Buxton, and Ryan and Marlee McCutchen.
Mrs. Pitts was preceded in death by her parents, William L. and Ethel Hall Taylor; and a brother, Morris Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Oakway Wesleyan Church, with the Revs. Jerry Williamson and Sam Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Mrs. Pitts will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Thursday. The body is at the Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, Dec. 18, 2002.
