She was born February 5, 1913, daughter of Frank and Catherine Ochs Rubsam. She married Elmer Henry Schafer in 1933; he died in 1992.
Survivors include four sons, Paul, David, Edward and Charles Schafer, all of Newton; two daughters, Yvonne Hargis of Newton and Marilyn Cox of Casey; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank "Popeye" Rubsam of Newton and James "Dutch" Rubsam of Owensboro, Kentucky. She was also preceded in death by one son, two brothers, and four sisters.
Mrs. Schafer was a homemaker and a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and the Altar Sodality.
