Augusta Lydia Ripley was the oldest daughter of Daniel and Sophia Ripley. She married Curtis Reed in 1850. They had 4 sons (John, Charles, William, and Harrison). She was a respected and remarkable woman. One of their sons (John), died in infancy. Two of her other sons were born deaf and mute, but despite those handicaps - went on to be very successful in the world. One was a postal worker and the other a pioneer in linotype that worked for the government.
Her other son, William was a civil engineer for the city of Menasha and later for Green Bay.

She was a victim of pneumonia. Mrs. Reed married Mr. Reed in 1850, and they were one of the first families to settle at Menasha. She was an aunt of Senator-elect John L. Mitchell.
