Creel Ethridge of Georgetown, 77, died Saturday, February 11, 1989, in Georgetown County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Ethridge was born in the Piney Forest community near Andrews on July 11, 1911, a son of the late Sim Ethridge and Mrs. Ellen Ethridge Ethridge.
He retired as a security guard from International Paper Company after a 25-year career. He was a member of Black River Free Will Baptist Church and a member of the Quarter Century Society at International Paper Company. He served in the Home Guard during World war II. Mr. Ethridge's wife, Myrtle Langston Ethridge, died in 1984.
He was survived by five sons, Arthur Thomas Ethridge, Billy Joe Ethridge, and Roger C. Ethridge, all of Georgetown, Johnny Ethridge of Colorado Springs, Colo., and J. Harry Ethridge of York; four daughters, Mrs. Betty E. Fletcher of Vicksburg, Miss., Mrs. Lou Ellen E. Wilson of Spartanburg, Mrs. Shirley E. Taylor of Sumter, and Mrs. Anna E. Ross of Mauldin; two sisters, Mrs. Dolly E. Powell of Orlando, Fla., and Mrs. Molly E. Port of Pawleys Island; 23 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were February 13, 1989, in the First Assembly of God. The Rev. Clifford Coursey and the Rev. William J. Anderson Jr officiated. Burial, directed by the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home, followed in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
