E. P. Breen, 67, Delivery Firm Owner, Dies.
Edwin P Breen Sr., 67, of 1748 Burlingame Ave. SW, owner and operator of Breen's Delivery Service here, owner and operator of Breen's Delivery Service here 43 years, died Friday at Butterworth Hospital.
Mr. Breen, who born in Allendale, came to Grand Rapids in 1921 and started his business in 1927 with one truck. Today, with a fleet of over 100 trucks, Breen's delivers for many major stores in Grand Rapids and Lansing.
An active member in both the state and local Elks, he was one of five lifetime members of Elks Lodge 48; a past exalted ruler; chairman of the State Ritualistic Committee; district deputy grand exalted ruler, trustee and vice president of the Michigan Elks Association.
He was a member of the Wesley Park United Methodist Church and the auxillary police department of World War II, a former director of the Grand Rapids Safety Council, he was also chairman of its Motor Transportation Division, captain of the Traffic Squad and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Travelers Protective Association.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; a son, Edwin Jr. of Lansing; a daughter, Mrs. Gordon (Gayle) Blouw of Grand Rapids; two step-children, Rod Peller of Minneapolis and Mrs. James Leaf of Grand Rapids; a brother, Neil of Grand Rapids; two sisters, Mrs. Peter Cook and Mrs. John Wiggers, both of Holland, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Sullivan Funeral Chapel, Rev. Theron E. Bailey and Elks Lodge 48 officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Memorial Park.
