Wagon Manufactures of South Bend, Indiana, Passes Away
South Bend, Indiana , Oct. 11, 1897—

Peter E. Studebaker, second vice president, treasurer and general manager of the Studebaker's Manufacturing company, died Saturday morning at 11:45 o'clock at the sanitarium at Alma, Mich., where he had gone to the hope of benefiting his health. He had been there since Tuesdaylast. The cause of his death was heart disease, from which he had been a sufferer for several months, but such was his devotion to the business which he was a conspicuous factor in building up, that he continued to give it his attention up to the time of his last visit to Alma. Mr. Studebaker was 61 years of
age. The remains were brought to this city (South Bend), and the funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon." Obituary provided by Contributor nmbo.

Peter E. Studebaker and 1st (of three) wife Dora A. Handley, 1838-1865, were married in 1856. She was the mother of his three children -- From Sandra Studebaker
