Mount Union, June 14 - Charles Ellis Bard, one of the youngest World War veterans in this section, died at the Aspinwall hospital, Sunday June 13, 1937, at 11:10 after an illness of about one and one-half years. At the time of death he was aged 37 years, 5 months and 20 days. When the call came for volunteers in the World War. Charles was just a high school student, a member of the senior class with commencement only a few months away. He was seventeen years of age. He enlisted and served his country three years. For more than one and one-half years he was in France, serving in the 16th Balloon Company. He attended Juniata College two years after he returned from service.
