Don McAllister wrote, "We did an interview with Dan Brinduse who was there and saw Fred Bard get wounded. Dan rigged a stretcher from his raincoat and carried Fred to the aid station where Fred died. Dan himself was wounded and didn't realize how badly till he had helped to carry several of his buddies back to the aid station. 10 of Dan and Fred's buddies were killed in that artillery barrage."

Fred is actually buried in The American Military Cemetery in Epinal, France. My Grandmother wanted his name on the tombstone to commemorate his heroic service to our country. She was always a proud Gold Star Mother. I recently found one of the little red poppies that the organization made. I will keep it in memory of both of them.
