Pneumonia Fatal After Two Weeks' Illness
Funeral services for the late Louis Gerard, as old settler of this county, was held Tuesday morning at nine o'clock from the St. Joseph Church with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Broens officiating. Interment was made in the St. Joseph cemetery.
Mr. Gerard passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. P. DeJardine, 220 Grant Street, Sunday morning at 6:30 o'clock following an illness of two weeks from pneumonia. He had made his home with Mr. and Mrs. DeJardine for the past eight weeks.
Louis Gerard was born in Quebec, Canada, on June 13, 1841. When 16 years of age he came to this country settling at Manitowoc for a short time, moving from there to DePere. Fifty-five years ago he came to Door county where he cleared a farm and settled near Jacksonport. Fourteen years ago he and Mrs. Gerard disposed of their farm and moved to Sturgeon Bay. About 14 months ago Mrs. Gerard passed away.
Fifty-eight years ago Mr. Gerard and Miss Louise Bourgo were united in marriage at Green Bay. To this union eight children were born, all of whom survive. They are: Mrs. August Burlo, of Green Bay; Mrs. Henry Londo, of Sturgeon Bay; Mrs. Ed Londo, of Neenah; Louis, of Neenah; Mrs. E. P. Desjardine, Sturgeon Bay; Henry, of Milwaukee; Michael, of Neenah; and August of Ironwood, Mich. All the children with the exception of August were present at the last rites.
