Calvin was born in New York. He was married first to Mary Ann ?? and then to Catherine in Rapids Township, Linn County, Iowa. He died in November 1879.
Catherine was born in Pennsylvania (probably Centre County). Her father, William Bruce, was born in Nova Scotia. He died before 1880. Her mother was Hannah (Mease) Bruce. After Catherine's husband Calvin's death, she married William Rogers.
Calvin and Catherine had five children.
Nancy's death certificate says she was born in Des Moines, Iowa. But the certificate was filled out by her youngest daughter who might not have known of her birth place. Nancy's two brothers and sisters were born in Iowa. A FindAGrave contributor, Sheri Bruce (#50330814) is the source of much of the preceding information.
Nancy's family moved to Humboldt county, California in about 1876. It is not known if her father made that journey.
The 1880 census notes that Nancy got married and divorced in 1880. We have no record of that marriage.
In 1890 Nancy married William Thompson Cruickshanks. William first arrived in California from Nova Scotia in 1877. The 1881 Canada census indicates he returned to Nova Scotia. In any event, he became a naturalized US citizen on September 3, 1888.
The couple had five children:
Frederick William Cruickshanks 1890-1945
Ralph Howard Cruickshanks 1891-1977
Ellenor Cruickshanks 1893-1982
Gilbert Delos Cruickshanks 1894-1972
Mabel Luella Cruickshanks 1901-1984
William was a produce farmer until about 1923 when he and Nancy plus possibly one or two of their children moved to Santa Rosa, CA.
William died in 1927. Nancy died nine years later. They are both buried in the Santa Rosa Odd Fellows Cemetery.
