Her first husband was Reynaldo Ronquillo (brother of Herlinda, and Carlos) whom she married when she was 14 years old in an arrangement that her father, Desiderio, made in order to clear his own gambling debt. After Reynaldo passed away she re-married to Filemon Barela whom she dearly loved.
