In the 1860 Taylor County census, Lafayette Underwood was head of household 101. He was 37 years old, a Farmer, born in Indiana. His wife, Ellen, was 36 years of age and born in Kentucky. The children were: Wm., 10; Mary J., 8; Celia, 6; John, 5; Nancy A., 3; and Lydia, age 1 year.
In the 1870 Taylor County Census for Saloma Precinct 1, Lee Underwood was family 231. He was 45 years old. His wife, Ellen, was 46. The children were: William, 21; Mary J., 18; Celia, 16; John, 14; Nancy A., 12; Lyddia, 10; Rousseau, 9; Sallie,; 7; and Thomas, 2 years old. They lived next door to James B. Beams, 55; and James Underwood, age 31.
In the 1880 LaRue County Census for the Buffalo district, Bud (sic) Underwood was family 105. he was 55 years old, a Farmer, born in Indiana. His father in North Carolina, and his mother in Virginia. His wife, Ellen (sic) was 54 and born in Kentucky, as were both of her parents. The children were: William, 30; Cely, 26; John, 23; Nannie, 22; Lydian, 19; Rouseau, 17; Sallie, 13; and Thomas, age 11 year.

Lafayette Underwood died of cancer on the 24th. Leaves wife and 8 children. Funeral at Mt. Tabor Church the following day.
