PATRICK B. CALLANAN DIES IN 100th YEAR, just shy of century mark.

A scant six months before he reached his 100th birthday, Patrick Bernard Callanan, 617 5th St, a Bremerton resident for the past quarter of a century, died yesterday in a Seattle hospital.

A building contractor by trade he had been retired for the past 50 years, enjoying to the fullest the companionship of his adoring family including Mrs. Maude Campbell, 617 5th St. with whom he resided for the past seven years. Prior to that he lived with other members of the family including Mrs. A.J. Dollard of 1317 N. Montgomery Ave., Mrs. Edith Snyder of 1508 7th St. and Mrs. George Bruce of Chicago and a son, John, of California.

Mrs. Callanan was born on August 10, 1848 in Galway, Ireland moving to the U.S. at an early age. He lived first in New York serving in the Civil War from there. In 1873 he moved to Minnesota where he married Rosina Pfund on April 29, 1875 and raised his family. In his retirement from active business he moved to Havre, Montana, later coming to Bremerton in 1920.

Educated in private schools in England he was, until recently when his eyesight began to fail, an omnivorous reader of Catholic life. In the later months of his life he was content to sit and dream of bygone days.

His 99th birthday was celebrated with his children and grandchildren gathered about him last August 10.

The names of the children are: Helen, Rose, John Henry, Lenora, Maude, Grace, Mary, Edith, Raymond Bernard, Ruth, Esther who had a twin brother who died at birth. He also raised a step-son Alfred Lee.

The funeral for Patrick will be held tomorrow at 9:30 a.m from the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton, Washington. The Rev. Father Martin Skehan will officiate. Burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Bremerton in the Memory section.

Inscription of 1842 birth probably is wrong, as his obituary states he was born in 1848 mentioning his 100th birthday
