ESTHER SYLVIA CALLANAN was born in Mantorville, Minnesota the youngest daughter of Patrick Callanan and Rosina Pfund-Callanan. She attended school in Mantorville. Tragic in its suddenness,her death shocked the whole community.She had been helping her classmates in preparing for the eighth grade program that evening commencement at the K.P. hall in which she had a part. Late in the afternoon she had been riding with her sister, Ruth and became excited at the passing of an automobile, fearing that the team would become frightened. The danger passed, and she remarked how frightened she had been, compaining of faintness and almost immediately lost consciouness, from which she never revived. Although being called at once, Dr. Adams worked over her for hours.
The audience for the school entertainment gathered at the hall, but stunned and saddened by the unexpected fate of their pupil and schoolmate, teachers nor pupils could proceed and the program was definitly postponed.
The funeral was conducted on Wednesday forenoon, from the Catholic church, which was crowdwd with sympathizing friends, Rev. Fr. Meyer officiating.


She is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Mantorville, Minnesota.
