Norma Bausch Hamilton, 97, the member of a prominent pioneer family of Bandera, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 6, at her home.

She was born on July 27, 1912, to Henry Andrew Bausch and Adele Hohenberger Bausch at their home on Winan's Creek in Bandera County.

Norma attended Winan's Creek Bandera Schools, and became an accomplished young lady. She married Fred Earl "Cotton" Hamilton in Devine on June 10, 1947. Her husband preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1978. He had been employed as maintenance foreman at Bandera Electric Cooperative.

When she was young, Norma joined Bandera United Methodist Church and, at the time of her passing, was the oldest living member of the church.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her talents of sewing, crocheting, embroidering, knitting and quilting were unsurpassed. Norma generously gave her beautiful crocheted bedspreads, potholders, quilts and other creations to her nieces, nephews and friends. Additionally, two Oscar-winning actresses own her quilts.

Among her other talents she enjoyed sharing with others were gardening, canning, cooking, baking and jelly making.

For several years, Norma worked at Purple Hills Nursing Home where she became a favorite with the patients.

While her boys were involved in scouting, Norma also served as a den mother. She was always interested and involved in the activities of her sons.

Survivors include two sons, George and John Hamilton, both of Bandera; grandson John Thomas Hamilton of Bandera; three sisters, Ida Mae Kutzer of Yoakum, Alice Buck of Oklahoma and Irene Stieler of Kerrville; brother Harold William Bausch and his wife, Anna Faye, of Bandera; and sister-in-law, Mildred Bausch of Bandera; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Hugo, Alvin "Buster," Arthur Lee and Henry Bausch; and sister Alma Bausch.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan.10, at Grimes Funeral Chapel with Reverend Everette Boyce officiating.

Interment followed in Bandera Cemetery beside her husband. Pallbearers were Cody Tripp, Paul Olsen, Russell Hevenor, Dee Causey, Pete Eckhart and Rick Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Bandera United Methodist Church, PO Box 128, Bandera 78003.

Arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera.
