William was the son of Balthasar Heckel and Bernadina Von Bokern Klein. On 25 Nov 1908 he wed Mary Burns and they had six children: Mary Lucy, William, Leo, Edward, Mary and James. Early in life William was a teamster but for most of his adult life he was a dealer in wood, shavings, and sawdust. He retired in 1959 from the trucking business that he had run for many years. William died at the age of 83.
