He was born in Cordele, Georgia at the beginning of the 20th Century, one of seven children born to Lee Hampton Webb (1864-1912) and (Sarah) Willa (Gatlin) Webb (1867-1943). Charles Fred Webb, b. Feb 2, 1900, was the 3rd son and 5th child in the household, named after his paternal grandfather, Charles Webb. In 1910, he lived with his parents in Cordele, where his father was a merchant. His parents had been blessed with 5 daughters and 4 sons who were: Mary(gold), b.1891, Lee, b.1892 (who, sadly, died at 6 months & 19 days of age), Violet, b.1893, Pansy, b.1894, John Howard, b.1895, Robert Leon, b.1898, Charles Fred, b.1900, Kate, b.1905, and little Willa, b.1906. Little did they know that their father, Lee Hampton, would be struck down by fate, passing from this life on Sep 1, 1912. Willa would never remarry, choosing to raise her children as a widow. The only other census I found with Charles in it was the 1940 U S Census conducted in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., CA on Apr 18, 1940. According to the census, Charles was living with his wife, Nell (Abbott) Webb, age 34, also from Georgia. They lived at 2505 W. 6th St. in Los Angeles, and had lived there since 1935. Charles was employed as a salesman; there was no employment listed for Nell. From what is written on his headstone, I doubt that any children were borne of their marriage, however, I am certain that there was much love as his headstone states he was a "Devoted Husband and Brother". Also, after his death, she did not remarry and, upon her death, she was buried by him at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
