Deceased Name: BENSON - Granville John "Stretch" Oltman
BENSON - Granville John "Stretch" Oltman, 80, of Crete, formerly of Benson, died at 11:05 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 20, 1994) at Glenshire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Richton Park, following a brief illness.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Crete, the Rev. H. Curtis Lyon officiating. Burial will be in Skyline Memorial Park Cemetery, Monee. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Crete Funeral Home, 1182 Main St., Crete, and one hour before the service Saturday at the church.

Mr. Oltman was born July 20, 1914, at Benson, a son of John Jr. and Pearl Newlon Oltman. He married Ruth L. Simmons. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Judith Clark, Charlotte, N.C.; and Karen Stivers, Bloomington; one son, John Oltman, Gridley; four sisters, Rachel Seggerman, Chenoa; Norma Newman, New Port Richey, Fla.; Fran Hupprich, Morton; and Patricia Dalziel, New Lenox; two brothers, Ray Oltman, Minonk; and Robert Oltman, Miami, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.

One brother preceded him in death.

Mr. Oltman was a retired automotive parts manager for Yanson Chevrolet in Chicago Heights, where he worked 35 years. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Crete, where he had been a deacon.

He was a member and past-president of Crete Lion's Club and its former District 1B governor. Mr. Oltman was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in 1944 and 1945.
He served three terms as Crete village trustee, from 1953 to 1965.

Memorials may be made to Illinois Lutheran High School, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, or to the Lion's of Illinois Foundation Eye Clinic.
