After working part time for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad in the late 1930's, Clarence enlisted in the US Army in 1941 and served during WW-II; rising to the rank of Sergeant and being awarded the Bronze Star for heroic action in combat.
On 29 June 1945, Clarence married the widow, Maryann (Gallenberger) Rezachek in Manitowoc, WI; she was age 36, he was 29.

Clarence also helped raise two daughters (JeanAnn F. & Marlene A.) from Maryann's first marriage. He died at age 50.
