Alan H. Jaeckel, age 87, of 22112 Rockville Road, Kiel, died unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon, May 5, 2012 at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.

He was born January 4, 1925 in Two Rivers, son of the late Herman & Elizabeth (Schmidt) Jaeckel.

Alan was a graduate of Two Rivers High School. He attended Milwaukee School of Engineering and UW Madison after graduation.

He was a veteran of the US Army serving his country from 1945-1946.

On June 12, 1948 he was united in marriage to Claudine "Mickey" Mettler at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Manitowoc.

Alan worked a short time at Stoelting Mfg., Kiel in the Engineering Dept. He became an insurance agent for American Family Insurance, opening a Kiel office in the late 1950's & continuing until his retirement in 1990. He remained active in insurance after his retirement.

He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Kiel where he was a longtime member of the choir. He belonged to several card clubs in Kiel & Texas, enjoying the games of sheepshead, cribbage, poker & skat. He also enjoyed spending the past 20 winters in Texas, traveling with his family, especially going up north and ice fishing with his friends.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mickey of Kiel, five children: Ross (Renee) Jaeckel, Kiel, Terri (Ben) Noel, Cleveland, Michelle (Randy) Rabe, Kiel, Jennifer (Patrick) Dickrell, Kiel, Kristine (Bruce) Welnetz, Kiel and grandchildren; Britanni (Nate) Meinnert, Maryssa (Peter) Peckskamp, Kelsey Jaeckel, Angie (Cory) Martin, Becky (Chris) McGeary, Nikki Noel (Todd Felde), Mandy (Cullen) Silbernagel, Jamie Rabe, Maggie & Katie Dickrell, Joshua, Lindsey & Ethan Riehn and Annamarie Welnetz. He is further survived by 11 great grandchildren: Abby, Cohen, Bryce, Levi, Tyler, Keegen, Chloe, Lily, Joey, Charlotte & Bentley, one son-in-law, Jan Riehn, Kiel, two sisters; Betty Sand, Mishicot, Rhoda (Russell) Kolberg, Sturgeon Bay, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Nellie Jaeckel, sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte (Jim) Johnson, brother-in-law, Elmer Sand and an infant brother.

The funeral Mass for Alan will be celebrated at 12:00 noon, Thursday, May 10, 2012 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 413 Fremont St., Kiel with Rev. Loren Nys S.D.S. officiating.

Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
