Franklin R. Agnew

Franklin Roosevelt Agnew, 77, of 532 John Baker Road, Fieldale, died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at his home.

He was born May 12, 1934, in Henry County to Bishop James Thomas Agnew Sr. and Mary Sue Hairston Agnew. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. James T. Agnew Jr.

He graduated from G.W. Carver High School in 1956, attended Maryland State College and retired from DuPont.

He was a member of St. James Pentecostal Holiness Church in Fieldale.

Surviving are his wife, Gracie Agnew of the home; six daughters, Jennifer Scott of Houston, Texas, Lynnette Harrison of Atlanta, Ga., Dorothy Johns of High Point, N.C., Mona Rawley of Martinsville, Natalie Preston of Roanoke and Victory George of the home; five sons, Bernard Hairston of Martinsville, Gregory Fuller of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Derek Strawn and Doug Strawn, both of Martinsville, and Lequan Hylton of Richmond; one brother, Elder Bobby Agnew of Martinsville; two sisters, Patricia Ann Wimbush of Bassett and Gwendolyn Moore of Greensboro, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Pentecostal Assembly Building with Bishop Tyrone Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
