DADE CITY, Jan. 12 (Special) - John A. Embry, 71, a retired United States consul and member of one of Pasco County's pioneer families, died at his home here today after a long illness. He was a native of Christian County, Kentucky and came to Dade City at an early age with his parents, the late Wallace E. and Minerva "Sally" Embry. He attended schools here prior to entry in the Occidental Academy in Los Angeles and later attended the University of Tennessee. Soon after graduating from Harvard University in 1915, Mr. Embry entered the diplomatic service and served as vice consul in Odessa, Russia and was serving as counsel in Siberia when he resigned to lecture and write on the Russian revolution. While with the department of commerce, he also served in Turkey and Egypt. Mr. Embry reentered the foreign service in 1939 and served as assistant commercial attache in Cairo, Egypt, and later in LaPaz, Bolivia. He subsequently was consul at Cochabamba, Bolivia, and from 1.944-46 was consul at Hull, England. Upon retirement in 1948, he was acting commercial attache in Cairo. He returned to Dade City where he lived until 1954. He subsequently lived in New Port Richey and in Mexico and Spain, returning here last April. He joined the Presbyterian Church as a young boy, and helped organize the Boy Scouts of America. He was also the author of a book, "Riddle of Social Justice," published in 1932 under the pen name of James A. Estill. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Anne Embry, Dade City; a sister, Mrs. C. F.
