Mrs. Martin L. Salm Sr., 72, of 44 Baldwin St., Chilton, died Tuesday evening at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, following a lingering illness.
The former Eva Birkholz, she was born May 11, 1901, in the town of Brothertown, a daughter of the late John and Catherine Morgan Birkholz. On Nov. 8, 1921 she married Martin Salm at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Jericho. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1971. They farmed in the town of Chilton until retiring in 1970 when they moved to Chilton. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Chilton and the Christian Mothers Society, Mission Society and the Third Order of St. Francis.
Mrs. Salm is survived by her husband and 89 direct descendents, including eight sons, John, Martin Jr., and Edgar all of Chilton, Vincent of Rockford, Ill., Raymond of Fond du Lac, William of Cleveland, Ohio, Lawrence of Boston, Mass., and Louis of Phoenix, Ariz., and seven daughters, Sr. Mary Bernadette, OSF, Racine, Mrs. Arvin (Dorothy) Halbach and Mrs. Melvin (Margaret) Reinl, both of Chilton, Mrs. Ronald (Theresa) Weed of Detroit, Minch., Mrs. Richard (Frances) Manning of Eugene, Ore., Mrs. Perry (Barbara) Wood of Frostberg, Md., Mrs. Gary (Mary) Bartels of Milwaukee.
Other survivors include 69 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother, Albert Birkholz, Fond du Lac, and two sisters, Sr. Mary Sylvester, OSF, Milwaukee and Mrs. Anton Schicker of Milwaukee. A brother and two sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral services were at St. Mary Catholic Church, the Rev. James Vennix, pastor, as celebrant.
