David was born and baptized at Errol, Perthshire, Scotland. He immigrated to America in 1857, and carried a letter of introduction which his daughter, Marion Lamond Laughlin, kept. It reads: "I hereby certify that the bearer David Lamond came to live in this neighbourhood more than a year ago and was received into communion with this congregation, and that he now leaves this quarter with a Christian character, which to the best of my knowledge is fair and unimpeachable." (signed) George Chapman, Minister-Great Salkeld Cumberland 11th May 1857.
In 1859 he married Miss Janette Reid Morton of Almont; they had 3 sons & 4 daughters.
