Mrs Jos Hertel, Pioneer of Mosel, Summoned to Rest
Mrs Joseph Hertel, 73, died at 2:45pm Tuesday at the home of her niece, Miss Alatha Belz, 1430 N Tenth street, after an illness of several months. She had been confined to her bed for the last for weeks. She was well known in this vicinity, having resided in the county since seventy years ago.
Born in Germany, February 5, 1851, Mrs Hertel, whose maiden name was Miss Theresa Steinahus, came to this country with her parents who settled in the town of Mosel. She was first married fifty years ago to August Bergner who died in 1895.
Her marriage to Joseph Hertel occurred twenty-three years ago in the town of Mosel and they move to Sheboygan about three years later. During the last twenty years she had been an active member of the Ladies Aid of St. John's church.
She is survived by her husband, three children, Mrs Ernst Perleberg of Sheboygan, Mrs Herman Conrad of Milwaukee and Dr Otto Bergner of Milwaukee, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. There are three sisters, Mrs Mary Schwenke and Mrs Paul Bergner of Sheboygan, besides a brother, Ernst Steinhaus, of the town of Mosel.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Friday from the hofe[sic], 1430 N Tenth Street, and at 1:30 pm from St John's Evangelical church. Rev E R Krueger will officiate and internment will be in Wildwood cemetery.
