Funeral Saturday for Mrs. Asmussen
Funeral services for Mrs. John Asmussen, longtime Remsen resident, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 10 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church here. Rev. Paul Wuebben officiated and burial was in the Remsen City Cemetery.
Mrs. Asmussen, died Wednesday night, January 7 at her home in Remsen. She had been in failing health for the past 4 ½ years and had made her home with her two daughters. She was 95 years old.
She was born August 30, 1874 in Schleswig, Holstein, Germany, the daughter of Deidrich and Dorthea Moller. She came to the United States and to the Remsen area at the age of 21.
Her marriage to John Asmussen took place at Remsen on February 11, 1899. They farmed in Sioux County until moving to Remsen in 1925, where they lived for 45 years. Mr. Asmussen died in 1951.
Surviving are two daughters, Lilly Asmussen and Dorothy Asmussen, both of Remsen; three sons, William of Los Angeles, Calif., Oscar of LeMars and Emil of Neiligh, Nebr.; 13 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Bernhardt in infancy.
Casket bearers were Murl Hansen, Henry Ott, William Ott, John Ott, Donald Hansen and Richard Nitzschke. The funeral was directed by the Moeller Funeral Home of Remsen.
