"EMERY KANE IS VICTIM OF FALL FROM APPLE TREE - A wave of sadness spread over the community of Christian Hill Friday morning of last week when it was learned that Emery Kane, a respected resident of that locality, had passed away as the result of injuries which he sustained in an accident on the preceding Monday afternoon. Mr. Kane with his youngest son, Kenneth, was engaged in picking apples when the limb upon which the ladder was resting broke and Mr. Kane fell to the ground. Dr. Sidney B. Tryon of Cooperstown was called and the injured man upon his advice was taken to the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, where an X-ray disclosed the fact that the spine had been fractured. He lingered until Friday morning when death occurred as stated above. Mr. Kane was the son of the late John H. Kane and Myraette Hyde and was born April 20, 1867. On August 23, 1898, he was united in marriage with Miss Minnie Boyd. To them eight children were born and as it was the aim of the parents to encourage and educate their children five of them were graduated from High school ... Surviving are the wife, eight children, Clarence of Homestead Park, Pa., Charles of Greer, W. Va., Mrs. Lyle Gifford of Oneonta, Mrs. Ray Finch of West Oneonta, the Misses Metta and Neva, and Leon and Kenneth at home; three brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Flora Chapman and Melvin D. Kane of Fly Creek, Mrs. Carrie Baker of Fork Shop, Dorr B. Kane of Oaksville and John H. Kane, Jr., of Cherry Valley, together with several nephews and nieces ... He was laid at rest in the beautiful Fly Creek cemetery. The many beautiful floral tributes from relatives and friends and both the Hartwick and Fly Creek Granges bore silent witness to the high esteem in which he was held."
