Dr. Andrew Bruins, 63, of 1807 Wollmer St., Manitowoc, died Monday evening at
his home following a lingering illness.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Jens Funeral Home. The Rev.
Paul H. Blaufuss will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The
Drew Bleser American Legion Post No. 88 will conduct graveside services.
He was born Jan. 1, 1894, in Sioux City, Iowa, son of the late Henry and Hattie
Van Beek Bruins and came to live in Manitowoc when four years old. He attended
schools in Manitowoc, graduating from the old Washington High School in 1911.
He was a veteran or World War I and following service, entered Marquette
University School of Dentistry and where he graduated in 1923.
He married the former Ida Scherer, Dec. 24, 1927?, in Manitowoc. His dental
offices were in the Dempsey Building from 1924 until he retired in 1952 due to
ill health. He practiced here for more than 27 years. He was a member of the
Masonic Lodge F and AM, No. 65 in Manitowoc and of the American Legion Drews
Bleser Post No. 88.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mr. Donald Brey and Mrs. George
Johansen Sr., both of Manitowoc; five grandchildren and one nephew. Two sisters
and three brothers preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Wednesday.
