Mrs. Elizabeth Cherney, 83, formerly of Rt. 1, Maribel, who resided
the past four years at 714 Manitou St., Manitowoc, died Sunday
afternoon at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at Urbanek and Schlei
Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church,
Cooperstown. The Rev. James Geenen will officiate with burial in
Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mrs. Cherney, nee Elizabeth Karbon, was born Nov. 12, 1893, in the
Town of Kossuth, daughter of the late Peter and Elizabeth Herdina
Karbon. She was married to Adolph Cherney Oct. 22, 1913. Mr. and
Mrs. Cherney operated Maribel Caves Tavern for 40 years, retiring in
1972. Mr. Cherney preceded her in death April 28, 1973. She was a
member of St. James Catholic Church, Cooperstown, and Christian
Mothers Altar Society of the church.
Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Mrs. Evangeline
Konop and Betty and Lester Ruzek, of Manitowoc and Mrs. Alyce Kornely,
of Maribel; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Rose Karbon, of
Denmark, eight grand-children, 15 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews
and other relatives. A daughter, Norma Grenier, preceded her in
death.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m.
Tuesday and Wednesday until the time of service. A prayer service
will be held at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Tuesday by Father Geenan.
