Mrs. George (Althea E.) Gaestel, age 86, of Shady Lane Nursing Care Center,
Manitowoc, formerly of 826 Wilson St., entered eternal rest Friday evening,
April 15, 2005 at the care center. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on
Wednesday at First German Ev. Lutheran Church, 1033 S. Eighth St., Manitowoc.
Officiating will be Rev.Steven Hahn with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery,
Manitowoc.
Althea was born April 24, 1918 in Cooperstown, Wis. She was the daughter of the
late Archie and Mabel Skelton Fehring. She graduated from Lincoln High School
with the Class of 1938. She had been employed with Paragon Electric in Two
Rivers and also had been the manager of the Lake View Outdoor Theater on Memorial
Drive. On Aug. 31, 1940 she was married to George Gaestel by Rev. Morris C.
Lesher at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Dubuque, Iowa.
Althea is survived by her husband of 64 years, George; one son, Dennis (Diane)
Gaestel, Green Bay; one daughter, Nancy (Wayne) Johnson, New Port Ritchey, Fla.,
one sister, Phyllis Busse, Manitowoc; four grandchildren, Stacey (Mike) Denil,
Michelle (Pat) Tousignant, Jeffrey (Patti) Johnson, Jill (Jack) Walworth; also
surviving are nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. She was
preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mildred Tuesburg and Elizabeth
Hartlaub.
Friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center on
Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm and then at the church on Wednesday from 10 am until the
time of services at 11 am. The family would like to acknowledge and specially
thank Selina and the fourth floor staff at Shady Lane Nursing Center for the
outstanding care that was given to Althea while she was under their care and a
resident at the care center. The Harrigan Parkside Funeral home and Cremation
Center, 628 North Water St., Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral
arrangements.
