affairs here for years, died Sunday at the Holy Family hospital. He had been in
failing health.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Urbanek and Schlei

Mr. Groth was born in Newton in 1869 and after finishing school in his town
decided to become an educator. In 1886 he entered Oshkosh normal school and

board. He retired from the banking business when the American Exchange bank was
discontinued. In more recent years he served as secretary of the local aerie of
Eagles, retiring from that post in 1945.
He also served on the executive board of the Boy Scouts for years and was a former
officer of the County Fish and Game Protective association. He has been a member
of the Manitowoc Elks lodge for 41 years.
In 1899 he married Miss Ida Schmitz. She died in 1903. He married Miss Hulda Schmitz
in 1904. She survives with a son, Harold, of this city; two daughters, Mrs. Melvin
Seihafer of Marshfield and Mrs. Raymond Clark of this city; sister, Mrs. Fred
Korthauer of Newton; and three grandchildren.
